NDC Will Depoliticise Ghana Armed Forces-J. Mahama


The National Democratic Congress (NDC),says the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will be depoliticise, discipline and loyalty to the state will be restored when voted into government come December 7.

The party in a 143-page policy document forwarded by the Flagbearer, H.E John Mahama promised to establish mechanisms for transparency and meritocracy as the basis for all promotions in the GAF.

“The NDC will aggressively resource the Ghana Armed Forces to improve their operational and combat readiness, swift mobilisation and firepower,” the document stated.

The party said it will encourage and expand the opportunities for non-commissioned officers (Other Ranks) to access officer cadet training, where appropriate.

It will further construct housing units for the Ghana Armed Forces and refurbish dilapidated and abandoned housing units across the country, and will systematically review salaries and allowances of troops and civilian employees upwards that will fall in line with economic trends in the country.

The retirement benefits of personnel will be upgraded in consonance with realistic prevailing economic trends, expand and improve accommodation for all ranks.

The NDC led administration will also build a military hospital at Ho, Bolgatanga and Sefwi Wiawso to serve both military personnel and civilians.

Finally, a Veterans’ Referral Hospital will be constructed at a suitable location in Accra to cater for the healthcare of veterans. This will be done in consultation with Veterans Administration of Ghana (VAG) ,and the Ghana Armed Forces.
